The Souper Bowl of Caring started in 1990 and involved 22 churches throughout Columbia, South Carolina. The youth of those churches raised $5,700 for local food kitchens. Last year over 10,173 youth organizations participated and raised over $9.6 million across the nation. Holy Trinity Youth has participated in this event for the past 5 years and have donated over $3,190.50 to Irvington Free Breakfast and Centerville Free Dining and we collected 313 non-perishable food items that were delivered to LUV-Newark. This year we will again be asking for cash donations to fund our local soup kitchens we are also asking for non-perishable food items to be donated. Food donations will be split between the Holy Trinity food pantry and the Community Food barrel. As just a thought...if you are attending or hosting a Super Bowl party please consider putting out a donation basket or jar and asking your guests to donate $1.00 or any amount for each beverage they consume. REturn your donation on February 12th. Over 35 million Americans live in households considered "food insecure" and 37% of adults requesting emergency food assistance is employed. "Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those whitout even a bowl of soup to eat." |
